ABOUT THE AMBC

The Association of Massachusetts Bird Clubs brings together the state's many diverse bird and nature clubs to support birding and conservation and to encourage appreciation for the natural world.

Founded in 2016, the AMBC provides a forum for member clubs to share skills and resources related to club management and increase nature access and nature programs in our communities.

We also work together on mobilizing support for birds and habitat in New England and collaborate with conservation, environmental justice, and nature education leaders to improve wild places and green spaces, strengthen our communities, and protect biodiversity.

AMBC member clubs have a combined membership of more than 20,000 birders, many of whom are active in conservation, advocacy and environmental justice efforts.

Members meet online or in person about 2-4 times a year and maintain a lively Google group where we discuss club management, birding, conservation and related topics.

By helping to amplify the concerns and efforts of our members and partners, the Association can help to bring attention to critical environmental challenges and mobilize public support.

JOIN THE AMBC

We encourage Massachusetts birders to join the AMBC!

To join, please provide club information and the name of a club member who can serve as your Delegate to the AMBC. Your club is free to choose or replace your Delegate at any timeā€”the AMBC has no role in your club's delegate selection beyond providing some guidance.

Anyone in your club may also apply as an individual member.

Please review the Delegate Responsibilities on the next page. If you would like to talk to someone first, please email associationofmabirdclubs@gmail.com, and a volunteer will be in touch.

Thanks for your interest

The Association is an alliance of member bird clubs. It has no role in the administration of and is not responsible for the activities of any member club. The AMBC is free to join.

Individuals are welcome to join the AMBC as non-voting members and to participate in club activities.

Responsibilities of Delegates

Delegates to the AMBC serve as crucial links to member clubs and the Association. The responsibilities of delegates include the following:

  • Bringing the concerns of their clubs to the attention of the AMBC for discussion.
  • Reporting on AMBC business and decisions to their club's members and boards/directors.
  • Making motions when appropriate for discussion and votes. Any motion brought to the AMBC must be seconded by a delegate to be considered for a vote.
  • Voting on motions as promptly as possible and confirming your vote when asked. If unable to attend a meeting or vote online, delegates may designate a proxy who can make and vote on motions on behalf oftheir club.
  • Volunteering to serve on AMBC committees or recruiting members from your club who might be willing to volunteer for committees.
